BMW of North America, LLC is recalling sports motorcycles due to defects affecting the front brake system. As released in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2,062 motorcycles are being recalled.
Motorcycles included in the recall are the BMW K1200 R, BMW K1200 R Sport, and BMW K1200 S, all from model years 2007 and 2008. The NHTSA has reported that brake fluid stored in the front brake fluid reservoir may foam, which can reduce the braking capability of the bikes and result in a crash.
The recall is expected to begin in November, during which time BMW will contact affected owners. The front brake fluid reservoirs of the motorcycles will be retrofitted with a screen insert to prevent foaming without charge to owners. Owners can contact BMW at (800) 525-7417 or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236 for more information.
